At 9:55 A.M. on July 31st, blade met body for a third time. Little Thomas, in the purple corner, weighing a meager 7lbs 15 oz, made his 20 inch debue for several seconds in complete silence. He held his breath defiantly, not anticipating the fatal blow that would start his time clock, the breath of life itself. It was a knockout.
What a miracle to see this little gift. It reminds me of how humble we come into the world, and how dependent we are on our mothers. Although, mothers seem to be one of the greatest gifts of all, sacrificing comfort and health for their children. My favorite moment of birth is when Holly picks up the baby in her room and talks to him in a high tender voice dispite her pain and fatigue. It is in this quiet conversation that I have seen her tender love.
